AEGIS 3 (KS3-4)

AEGIS 3 is an educational GIS (Geographic Information System) that is organised as an interactive A3 or A4 worksheet with maps, data tables, text and pictures with notes for KS3 upwards.There are a number of sample worksheets included in the AEGIS 3 package:

Fieldwork examples: local, urban and rural fieldwork from Year 7 to GCSE,
EU data and worksheets on Italy, France and UK
World development data and worksheets
India census 2000
Environment and landscape exercise with pictures and notes on the Studland peninsula
You can import large scale Ordnance Survey digital maps of England Wales and Scotland into AEGIS 3 worksheet and add your own fieldwork data to them. You can also add digital photos at places on the map.
AEGIS 3 comes with interactive documentation which you can use on screen or print out to help you use the program.
There is a free AEGIS Viewer with sample worksheets that you can download from the Advisory Unit's web site. An extensive AEGIS tutorial on CD with animated demonstrations costs £140.

Goad and ECW module (requires AEGIS 3)

This module allows Goad Plans and ECW images to be used in AEGIS 3.Goad plans: there are about 1,000 Goad plans available for Britain and Ireland. Each plan contains a large scale map of the town or shopping centre with all the premises details in a data file. Creates instant land use maps which may also be searched. Ideal for investigations and fieldwork.
ECW images are highly compressed and may be georeferenced. This means that aerial photographs may be zoomed in to show fine detail on the ground. ECW maps may also be found on the web and incorporated into your own work. You may link ECW images together to zoom and pan in conjunction and overlay them to fade into one another.

Concept Plus (SEN and F)

Mainly for Special Schools and for pupils with Special Educational Needs. Concept Plus ‘drives’ the Concept Keyboard and creates overlays. It can also be used on screen.
Making overlays is quick and easy with the built-in Editor. You can make multilayered overlays and add graphics and recorded sound.Concept Plus is ideal for use with Interactive Whiteboards. You can make large on screen keyboards with letters and numbers, links to web sites and accessible tools such as mathematical functions.Concept Plus contain speech allowing you to use your Concept Keyboard to read back words as they are pressed – an ideal tool for the visually impaired.

Home and School / Keywords (F - KS2)

Home and School / Keywords are ready to use picture dictionaries with multilayered grids and extensive vocabulary for early learners. The grids are designed for use with a word processor to extend and reinforce children’s vocabulary.The right mouse button has words spoken by children and the left button inserts the words into a word processor. Pupils can practice using the words with the built-in sentence makers.
